Prenatal yoga is one of my favorite and most recommended movement practices during pregnancy. I have seen in women who practice regularly (at least three times a week) have an increased capacity to manage the intensity of labor. Yoga builds strength and focus, and at the same time cultivates surrender and relaxation.
One of my prenatal teachers loves to get us into squats. She keeps us there for a minute, and then we release and go back into it for another minute. She does this in rounds, and as our legs begin to shake, she reminds us to find our breath, to find movement to help keep our focus. “This is your practice contraction,” she says, “find your breath, get comfortable with the intensity, soften into it.”
Prenatal yoga will help you to sleep better, to have a stronger body, to become calmer and more relaxed, and to connect with your body and your baby.
